Community Gathers For Little Hunting Creek Grand Opening
On November 4th, NVCT, Stratford Landing, and Friends of Little Hunting Creek held a dedication event as community members gathered at the local walking trail to celebrate the latest infrastructure improvements.
The goal of NVCT’s work at the nature preserve has been to provide better trail access to the conserved property so that neighborhood residents can more easily enjoy the beauty and tranquility of this community jewel. We were excited to have Mount Vernon District Supervisor Dan Storck with us as well, who as a close neighbor and avid biker/runner, knows the trail very well.
NVCT has worked closely with Friends of Little Hunting Creek and the Stratford Landing Civic Association over many years to organize volunteer trash and debris removals, as well as invasive species pulls on the preserve that improves the water quality of the creek. We recently added two new sitting benches, enhanced signage, and three wood duck nesting boxes to the property, and more is planned for the year ahead.

Little Hunting Creek’s headwaters rise out of Huntley Meadows Park and is a critical waterway that flows southeast to the Potomac River near historic Mount Vernon.
