Sat. Oct. 14 4th Annual Leopold’s 5K & 1-mile Fun Run, 2 p.m., Haymarket. Run/walk through conserved land at the Villages of Piedmont at Leopold’s Preserve, 16080 Market Ridge Blvd., Haymarket. See details at event site, www.leopoldstrail5k.com.
Wed. Oct. 18 Birds, Butterflies, and Blossoms on the Blue Ridge–Managing your property for wildlife, biodiversity, and scenic beauty, 4 to 6 p.m., Piedmont Memorial Overlook, Paris, VA. The Blue Ridge Conservation Alliance is sponsoring this event on a 50-acre mountaintop preserve, along with NVCT and other organizations. Event is free, but reservations required, online at www.pecva.org/events.
