“Saving Place, Saving Grace” Screening Event a Success
On January 27, 2017, LTV, Goose Creek Association and Blue Ridge Wildlife Center joined together to present a free community screening of the documentary film “Saving Place Saving Grace” at the Hill School in Middleburg, VA.
Deidra Dain and George Patterson’s film chronicles the story of a Trappist monastery’s struggle for reformation of their home by embracing an intense sustainability initiative. Attendees witnessed the monks’ land stewardship, prayer, and work ethic as the core of the community at Holy Cross Abbey. It’s a race against time to retain their rural home along the iconic Shenandoah River in the shadow of The Blue Ridge Mountains.
Ecology meets theology. “Saving Place, Saving Grace” portrays an extraordinary place and grace in the spirit of contemplative prayer and lifestyle that is the soul of Cool Spring. And—without the active engagement of the internal and external communities—this 1,200-acre property and community could disappear.
Blue Ridge Wildlife Center’s Animal Ambassador “Beeker”, a skunk, was present for a meet and greet prior to the film while guests enjoyed complimentary refreshments.
Filmmakers Dain and Patterson and Holy Cross Abbey Representative Kurt Aschermann were on hand following the film and led a discussion about the film and the Abbey with audience members, while vocalist Madeline McNeil closed the event with a musical performance.
